First Scott by playing golf and seeing him play some of the most beautiful courses across our state and now Daniel traveling to play Bluegrass on the Blue Ridge Parkway and along The Crooked Road.” Daniel was invited to play at a monthly meeting for a HLS youth showcase in 2005, which was his first public performance on Bluegrass fiddle. Natalie Wurz, Secretary

Natalie WurzNatalie Wurz, a Georgia native, has been a lifelong lover, supporter, and player of traditional music. While attending Young Harris College in the north GA mountains, she was inspired to take up the banjo, her first stringed instrument. Natalie’s 10 years working in the west (Colorado and then Utah) were highlighted with weekends spent hiking, fishing, learning guitar, and programming/hosting a weekly radio show on KRCL in Salt Lake City, promoting acoustic genres of bluegrass, traditional country, old-time, and celtic music. Her professional career in Quality Assurance led her back to the south in 1989. She quickly joined the Triad music community as a DJ on WQFS at Guilford College in Greensboro and also served as a Board Member for the Fiddle and Bow Society based in Winston-Salem. Natalie has been an active member of High Lonesome Strings since 2007. In her current role as part owner and VP, Director of Sales and Marketing for Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, she supports and promotes American Roots music through sponsorship of regional music festivals and hosting of concerts, workshops, and jam sessions at the winery that feature local, national, and international talent. She continues to evolve as a musician and singer is now learning to play the fiddle and mandolin.

I’m a mother of 5 from a 33-year marriage but, I have met so many more through High Lonesome Strings that I’d like to call my youngens or at least my family. I’ve been in Bluegrass music for coming up on 9 years. I’m not a musician but oh how I love everything that comes with the life……… good hearted folks, talented and wholesome youngens, jams, festivals, conventions, dancing, and camping.

I’m all about keeping the tradition of the music alive, so when I meet the youngens that’s all in the music, my heart just swells, and I want to be involved with all that encourages and supports their growth.

I first heard “hillbilly music” listening to Roy Acuff 78 rpm records on the family Magnavox in the 60s. In the 70’s I was reintroduced to a more modern version of the music with Roy Acuff along with a fine group of musicians on the popular “Will the Circle be Unbroken” recording. As a guitar player and singer more familiar with 60’s and 70’s popular Rock and Roll music, I was captivated by the virtuosity of the players and even recalled some of the songs from those old 78’s. That started a lifelong journey into the discovery of Bluegrass music both as a player and enthusiast. A transplant to the Triad in 2010, I was fortunate to find and be welcomed by the wonderful folks at the High Lonesome Strings Bluegrass Association. I hope that you find the same friendship that I have here with HLS. Welcome to the music!
